The city is situated to the west of Tirana, Albania\'s capital, and is home to many ancient Roman sites, including the Balkans\' largest amphitheatres (a 9-minute walk), endless sandy beaches and some of the best nightlife in Albania. Places to visit include the remains of the Byzantine Walls, Durrës Castle (a 2-minute walk) and the 4th-century Venetian Tower (12-minute walk), close to the seafront. The tower is now a restaurant and offers the perfect place to watch the sunset over the Adriatic Sea. The nearest beach is a 15-minute walk from the accommodation, and the port is an 8-minute drive.
For self-catering, there are several supermarkets within a 10-minute walk, and the town’s covered \'Grand Market\' (a 13-minute drive) is the best place to pick up fresh local produce to try at home.
