Unique Home in Woods near Craigville Beach, Centerville, Family | House in Centerville
4 Bedroom House in West Hyannisport, Centerville
The house is called "Treetops," named for its iron plaque set above the fireplace and for its green perch in the trees. It is a large, rambling, year-round house on an acre in the woods with a wrap-around enclosed porch, overlooking a sea of trees grown up from the former cranberry bog in front, creating acres of peace to the Centerville river beyond.
Treetops is a family home, built in the 1920s and renewed over time, set at the end of a sandy road behind the historic village of Craigville. It is a welcoming space for everyone.
The house is rustic, but gracious, with many comfortable amenities. It is suitable for families, as well as couples or small groups who want a woodsy getaway that is close to the beach, and the restaurants, shopping, and Island ferries (to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket) of nearby Hyannis.
There is a convenient outdoor shower, in addition to the indoor shower and tub. The outdoor shower is ideal for post-beach use to keep the sand out of the house and pipes. (There is a fireplace in the house, but not available to use due to safety concerns.)
Treetops is behind the Craigville Retreat Center, in a small historic village that is a year-round haven, set on a bluff above the Nantucket Sound, with a village green ringed by gingerbread cottages, a children's playground, a historic former post office, and the Tabernacle. Craigville has been a place of historic retreat for "all people in all seasons" since its founding in 1872. The vibrant summer community hosts Illumination Night when the cottage owners light up the houses for the band concert and the village ice cream social. Various other concerts, events, and movie nights are held in the Tabernacle in the summer. (Google Craigville Village for pictures.) Craigville Beach with its wide sands and warm summer waters of the Nantucket Sound is a 10-minute beautiful stroll away through the village. The Craigville Chronicle is the community source for summer news ( google Craigville Chronicle for editions).
Guests are welcome to all the public events in Craigville Village at the Tabernacle, including music, speakers, movies, and worship. The village green with a volleyball net and the adjacent children's playground are available to use. The summer shop in the old post office by the green sells the newspaper and Craigville mementos.Dogs are welcome in the village, but must be leashed. Dogs are not permitted on Barnstable beaches between May 15 -September 15.
There is plenty of parking at the house if you bring cars, but Craigville Beach is also lovely, short walk away if you don't want to drive once you get here. There is paid, public parking at the beach. The famous Kennedy compound in Hyannisport is a five-minute drive toward Hyannis. The historic and elegant villages of Centerville and Osterville close by to the east. Famous Four Seas Ice Cream (where Jackie Kennedy loved the peach flavor) is in Centerville.
Summer, fall, winter, and spring each provide their own Cape Cod draw. Sun, swimming, sailing, beach walks in all seasons, fall colors, spring peepers, or a winter wonderland await. Welcome.
